Your boat’s logbook, planner and checklists in one place.
MyBoatMate keeps track of maintenance, journeys and engine hours, checklists and documents, whether you have a narrowboat, a motor cruiser, a sailing boat or a RIB.
Free 30-day trial, then £9.99 a year. No adverts. No tracking.
Less paperwork, more time on the water
MyBoatMate replaces the notebook in the drawer, the reminders scattered across your calendar and the certificates in a plastic wallet.
-
Everything at a glance
Open the app and Home shows all your boats with what needs doing on each, the next jobs coming due across every boat, and a Start button on each boat to get going.
-
Maintenance that knows when it’s due
Set tasks by time, by engine hours, or both, whichever comes first. Oil changes, impellers, blacking or antifouling, rigging checks and the Boat Safety Scheme all get a clear status, and hours-based jobs show a forecast date from how much you actually cruise.
-
Journey log with engine timers
Start a journey in two taps and each engine’s timer runs on its own. Switch one off while you stop for lunch and on again later. Hours add up even if your phone locks or the app closes. Add the weather and photos, or log a past journey by hand.
-
Checklists you make your own
Every boat starts with one short, ready-made “Before setting off” list. Build your own from suggestions matched to your boat, and swipe an item away if it doesn’t apply today. Number items record crew, locks, fuel and meter readings straight into your journey.
-
Documents with expiry reminders
Keep your Boat Safety certificate, licence or registration, insurance, mooring contract and more, with numbers, expiry dates and a photo or PDF of each, backed up to your account. You’ll get a nudge before anything runs out.
-
A “Don’t forget” list
Jot down things to bring or do next time (a spare fuse, a new windlass, a gas refill) from Home or mid-journey. They stay in view until one tap ticks them off.
-
Works offline on the water
No signal in the cutting or out on the water? No problem. The phone app keeps everything on your device and syncs quietly when you’re back in range.
-
Backed up to your account
Your records, photos and documents are kept safe with your account. Get a new phone, or sign in on a second iPhone or Android phone, and everything is there.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work without a phone signal?
Yes. The iPhone and Android apps store everything on your phone first, so you can log journeys, run the engine timer, tick off checklists and record maintenance with no signal at all. Your changes sync the next time you have a connection.
Which boats is it for?
Any boat. Narrowboats, widebeams, Dutch barges, motor cruisers and yachts, sailing boats, RIBs and dinghies all work, with inboard, outboard, sterndrive or electric engines and generators.
When you add a boat, we suggest ready-made maintenance tasks matched to its type, engines and hull, from rigging and winch servicing on a yacht to tube and outboard checks on a RIB, plus one short “Before setting off” checklist. When you build your own checklists, the items we suggest are matched to your boat too. There’s one set of suggestions for everyone, so a canal boat gets the canal items and a sea boat the sea items, including things like the Boat Safety Scheme and licences where they apply. You can edit everything and add your own tasks and lists.
Support for fleets, syndicates and shared boats is planned for later.
Is my data private?
Yes. There are no adverts, no analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your data. If the app crashes, it sends us a crash report without personal details so we can fix the problem.
Your photos and PDFs are backed up privately to your own account. Your start and end position on a journey is only saved if you allow it. When you tap the location button to fill in a place name, your phone’s built-in location service (from Apple or Google) looks up the name.
Read the full privacy policy.
Are my document photos backed up?
Yes. Photos and PDFs you add to documents, service records and journeys are backed up to your account in cloud storage, so they open on your other devices too. Photos are compressed to under 1 MB and PDFs can be up to 2 MB. Add one with no signal and it uploads when you’re back in range.
You can also share or export any file from the phone app.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to More → Your data → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and everything in it. If you can’t get into the app, see how to delete your account for other ways to ask us.
How much does it cost?
MyBoatMate is free to download and comes with a 30-day free trial, no card needed. After that it’s £9.99 a year. You subscribe in the iPhone or Android app, through the App Store or Google Play. The subscription renews every year, and you can cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play settings.
If you don’t subscribe, your account becomes read-only: you can still see and export everything, and your data is kept for 12 months in case you come back.
How many boats can I add?
Up to 5 per account. Running more, for example a hire fleet or a club? Email us.
How many photos and files can I keep?
Every account includes 200 MB of storage for photos and PDFs, which is room for a few hundred photos. Each journey, job record and document holds up to 5 of them, and a boat has its cover photo. The app shows what you’ve used under More → Your data.
